In November 2009, GenSpring partnered with Kiawah Capital to create GenSpring Charleston LLC. Chris Cecil serves as president and is joined by Mike Henderson, senior partner with GenSpring Charleston, Ron Owens, VP-managing director of GenSpring Charleston and president of Kiawah Capital, and Dan Prickett VP-managing director of GenSpring Charleston. Prior to his role with GenSpring Charleston, Dan was the former managing executive of Calibre (formerly the multi-family office arm of Wachovia Wealth Management) and is a current resident of Kiawah Island.
Chris Cecil is president of the GenSpring Charleston family office. He oversees all operations and delivery of the multi-family office and investment management services to our client families throughout the Carolinas. Over the past 21 years, Chris has worked extensively with ultra high net worth entrepreneurs and wealthy families in such areas as investment management, asset allocation, investment policy creation, multi-generational planning and the acquisition and financing of closely held businesses.
Before joining GenSpring, Chris was president of the Southeast and of the Florida regions for JPMorgan Private Bank, where he was responsible for over $12 billion of ultra high net worth family assets. Previously, he was managing director at Brown Brothers harriman & Co. in both Palm Beach, FL and New york, NY, where he headed their national group of portfolio managers, was former president of BBH Mutual Funds, and a director of their trust company. He also headed the Private Client Investment Management Services group and created their open-architecture Multiple Advisory Invesment Management group.
Mike Henderson has been with GenSpring since 2001. Mike is responsible for services provided to the GenSpring South Region Family Office clients.
Prior to joining GenSpring, he spent 23 years at Arthur Andersen as a tax consultant to business owners and executives on income and estate tax planning. While at Arthur Andersen, Mike served as head of the Family Wealth Planning service line in the Carolinas. He was also one of twelve U.S. partners on the firm's National Specialty Team for Family Wealth Planning, which developed leading edge strategies for high net worth clients. As one of four national directors for the Arthur Andersen Center for Family Business, he helped serve unique planning needs of large family business owners, including strategies related to management succession, monetization alternatives and estate planning.
Most recently, Mike was an investment manager with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in Atlanta, where he assisted high net worth families in a broad range of investment management and financial advisory needs.
Mike is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina.
Ron Owens serves as managing director of GenSpring Charleston LLC. Ron is responsible for the management of the Charleston office, and introducing GenSpring Charleston to the Carolinas. Ron also serves as president of Kiawah Capital LLC where he oversees financial and portfolio investment management activities for Kiawah Capital. Kiawah Capital is a family office devoted to the owners and developers of Kiawah Island. The family office provides equity and debt funding as well as management support to privately owned, small to middle market enterprises based in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida for purposes of facilitating growth plans, recapitalizations and buyouts.
Ron has more than 20 years of experience with Kiawah and Seaboard Partners, in Charleston, South Carolina. While at Seaboard, the fund grew from $200 million to $1 billion in assets under management, with investments in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, and media. Ron primarily focuses on evaluating and selecting investment opportunities in real estate, private equity, high-yield securities and syndicated bank loans.
Ron received a B.S. in Business Administration from Winthrop University, he is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder. He serves on the Board and Executive Committee of Wings for Kids and Lowcountry Housing Trust. Ron is a native of Charleston and currently lives there with his wife, Myriam, and two children.
Dan Prickett serves as managing director of GenSpring Charleston LLC, and is responsible for new business development in Charleston and the Carolinas. Most recently, Dan Prickett served as CEO of Calibre, the multi-family office for Wachovia Corporation where the business grew to $17 billion in assets under his leadership. Dan has thirty-five years of experience in financial services focused primarily on the high net worth market.
Prior to joining Wachovia in 1995, Dan was based in New York and served as head of the Chase Manhattan U.S. Private Bank before being appointed the managing executive of Chase Asset Management, the global investment management unit of Chase Manhattan. Before Chase, Dan was in Boston with The Boston Company as executive vice president and head of trust and investments for its wealth management practice. The Boston Company was, at the time, a subsidiary of American Express.
Dan holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the University of Missouri.
Dan retired from Wachovia in 2007 and now lives on Kiawah Island, South Carolina with his wife Nancy.
